INTERGEO 2010 was held in Cologne, Germany 5-7
October. The world biggest tradeshow in surveying and geomatics
business gathered 17,500 visitors. Already 25 per cent of exhibition
visitors come outside Germany and their portion is further
increasing. The number of exhibitors exceed 500 companies
representing 32 nations. This indicates that INTERGEO has became
truly international exhibition over the last years. The number of
international visitors has increased by 20 per cent and number of
exhibitors by 10 per cent compared to 2009. This year's partner
country was China PR. The INTERGEO conference titled "Knowledge
and Action for Planet Earth" attracted 1,500 participants. It seems
that the new conference concept in partnership with other key
players has proved to be a great success. In Cologne the European
congress EnviroInfo 2010 was for the first time organised jointly
with INTERGEO.  Each day of the three-day INTERGEO conference
started with a plenary session introducing a high profile
			internationally recognised speaker. |

The first session was opened by Dr. Karl-Friedrich Thöne,
President of DVW who addressed the role of surveying profession and its
challenges in German and international context. The first keynote was given
by Dr. Udo Di Fabio, member of the Federal Constitutional Court of
Germany, who discussed the role of public and private sectors from
legislative perspective and privacy issues and transparency in
geoinformation that is made available for the public through the Internet.
Discussion on spatial data on the web and e.g. street view services has been
especially active in Germany during the last months.
The second day keynote was given by Jack Dangermond, Founder and
President of ESRI, who discussed how GIS on the Internet can help addressing
world’s problems. He addressed several key issues in the geoinformatics
business and the trends that increase when we create more information in a
quantitative form and this is generating huge savings in costs.
The third day plenary session was dedicated to international trends in
surveying and land managements. FIG President, Prof. Stig Enemark
gave a presentation "Surveying: Where are we heading ?" focussing on
the chancing role of land professionals and on the land management vision.
He also described the work that FIG has made in implementing the UN
Millennium Development Goals and addressed the achievements that FIG has
reached over the last four years.
FIG was represented at the INTERGEO by President Enemark, incoming Vice
President Rudolf Staiger and Peter Normann Hansen, Ambassador
for corporate members and John Hohol, President of the FIG
Foundation. They together with the FIG Director had meetings with the major
FIG corporate members and also with member associations. The number of FIG
members attending INTERGEO indicated that it has become a true platform for
international networking. Contacts to potential corporate members were also
	made.
The next INTERGEO will be held in Nürnberg 27-29 September 2011.
