STDM Valuation of unregistered land

June 2024

First of all a huge step for the Social Tenure Domain Model STDM - it is now a  normative annex in the Land Administration Domain Model LADM part 2, at DIS stage.

Following on that the STDM Valuation of unregistered land model is included in the current update of the ISO LADM II 19152 Part 4, which was recently approved in ISO’s Draft International Standard (DIS) stage. The model was developed by a group of experts (Eva-Maria Unger, Chair STDM Advisory Committee, Kadaster; Abdullah Kara, FIG Foundation recipient and LADM Team; John Gitau, UN-Habitat GLTN; and Peter van Oosterom, LADM Team; Jaap Zevenbergen, University Twente/ITC). The model is based on the Valuation of unregistered land manual developed by UN-Habitat GLTN.

The ISO’s approval represents a significant step toward sectorial adoption of the principles of Social Market Value in the valuation process. An informative annex has been added to part 4, extending the existing STDM conceptual model with an STDM Social Market Value class. This class can potentially be applied in various use cases, including expropriation, slum upgrading, fair resettlement and compensation, cultural heritage, and biodiversity conservation projects. This development also relates with the recent World Bank Land Conference 2024 session/presentations.

Here you can find more information on the model:

Many thanks to the FIG Foundation for their support of Abdullah Kara:
